AS IT HAPPENED
Chennai Super Kings won the toss and chose to bat. Delhi came into this match after failing to chase anytime that they had batted second.
Faf Back Amongst the Runs
Faf Du Plessis scored a good 58 of 47 balls, although a little slow in T20’s parlance but he held one end. It’s good signs for CSK that Faf is back amongst the runs after a few bad games. After Curran got out on a duck, Watson and Faf stitched together an 87 run partnership.
Rayudu and Jadeja at their Destructive Best
Rayudu and Jadeja smashed the Delhi bowlers to all parts of the ground. They were at their destructive best. A lot was said about CSK’s middle order’s lack of intent but Rayudu and Jadeja’s innings were full of intent. Rayudu made 45 of 25 balls and Jadeja 33 of 13. The duo scored 67 runs in the last 5 overs that helped CSK post a total of 179-4. Although it was good seeing Dhoni at 5 but he couldn’t trouble the scorecard much.
Prithvi and Shikhar’s Consistency Paradox
Prithvi Shaw has been consistently failing to score. He has managed to score a total of just 23 runs in his last 4 innings, which includes 2 ducks in his last two innings. On the contrary, Dhawan has been positively consistent. Tonight was his third consecutive 50+ score this season. He went on to score his highest ever T20 and IPL score
Axar’s 3 Sixes!
Despite Dhawan’s ton, Delhi found them in a crunch situation as they needed 17 off the final over. It was Jadeja who was bowling and Axar Patel smacked him for 3 sixes to settle the game. The last over read: Wide, 1, 6, 6, 2, 6 . Delhi Won By 5 Wickets .
Drop Catches Cost Chennai The Match
Chennai’s fielders dropped 3 catches of Shikhar Dhawan who ultimately proved to be the difference. Poor fielding cost Chennai the match. The three guilty fielders were Chahar, Dhoni and Rayudu. Apart from the drop catches, Chennai missed a couple run-out chances too.
