Mumbai Indians are back at the top of the points table. It was a one-sided affair as CSK suffered a humiliating defeat which really summed up their campaign this year.

AS IT HAPPENED

Mumbai Indians won the toss and chose to bowl first in Sharjah. The trend has again changed as teams chasing are winning most of the games in recent weeks.

Everyone thought CSK would come all guns blazing in this match with nothing to lose. But things went haywire for CSK. Trent Boult and Jasprit Bumrah completely ripped apart CSK in what turned out to be their worst ever power play in terms of wickets.
CSK were 3-4 at one point and they finished with 24-5 after the power play.

No ‘Spark’ in the Youngsters
Both Dhoni and Fleming after the last game iterated the fact that they did not find a spark in any of the youngsters. Gaikwad and Jagadeesan played today and both got out on a duck. Clearly they have not done well from their ends to prove the captain and coach wrong.

Sam Curran Helps CSK cross 100

CSK were 44-7 after the 9th over and 100 looked too much to get. But Sam Curran played a good innings of 52 and saw CSK cross the triple digit barrier. Not that it made any difference to the result but it surely saved CSK from the embarrassment of a double digit score. Sam Curran has perhaps been the only consistent player for CSK this season.

CSK finished on 114-9 with their top scorers being Curran, Dhoni, Tahir and Thakur.

Kishan Makes Hay In Rohit’s Absence
Rohit Sharma didn’t play today as a precautionary measure. Ishan Kishan got the chance to open the innings alongside De Kock. A target of 115 didn’t ask for steep measures from the new opener but he played his natural game and finished the game in the 13th over itself. Kishan made 68 off 37 balls and received good support from De Kock as MI didn’t lose a wicket in the chase.

Mumbai Indians – A Team To Beat
Mumbai Indians have emerged to be the toughest team to beat in the competition. They have the most settled unit, they bat deep, they have world-class bowlers, and to top it all off, loads of experience. Even in the absence of their captain, Rohit Sharma, they didn’t deter one bit from their performance. They surely have a huge chance to lift the cup yet again and break their jinx of even years.
