DC vs RCB Match Preview and Predication XI
DC and RCB will go head to head in the Sheikh Zayed to prove their metal in this year’s IPL. The winner today will ensure a top 2 finish and the loser will depend on tomorrow’s result. Both the teams have had similar runs so far this IPL. They both started off brilliantly but tailed off come the business end. DC are on a 4 match losing streak and RCB on a 3.
Time For Individuals To Step Up
There is no dearth of match-winners in both the teams and perhaps it is time for the proven individuals to step up and perform in a crunch game. Kohli, ABD, Dhawan, Pant and the others need more than just 20-30 runs. Defending has been tough in the later part of the tournament but we saw yesterday what pressure can do to a chasing side in front of a huge score.
Padikkal’s Form And Opening Partner
Devdutt Padikkal has been the find of the season this year. He is 7th in the orange cap list and is just 9 runs behind Kohli as the leading run getter for RCB this season. But the trouble for RCB recently has been regarding Padikkal’s opening partner. Although Philippe did decently in the couple of games that he got as an opener, RCB could bring back Finch in a game where experience will matter. Finch and Padikkal have the 2nd highest runs this season as far as opening combinations go.
Much of DC’s prolific run this season was due to Rabada and Nortje’s exploits with the ball. In the last two games, Rabada hasn’t taken a wicket and thereby also lost the purple cap. Nortje too hasn’t had much of an impact and both their economies have been far from impressive. DC needs their two gun bowlers to step up against RCB, much like what they did the last time they
met RCB.
LOSE TODAY AND STILL QUALIFY?
Such has been the make-up of this year’s IPL that the loser of today’s virtual qualifier can still make it to the top 4. It all will then come down to beating KKR’s net run rate. DC should not lose by 14 or more runs or RCB shouldn’t chase it down under 18.5 overs. RCB should not lose by 17 or more runs or shouldn’t have the target chased down by DC under 18.3 overs. It will not
come down to the run rate at all should SRH lose to MI tomorrow.
