Smith and Finch guide Australia to a massive total.

The first ODI at SCG saw both the sides Australia and India wear a vintage styled jersey. On a sunny morning at SCG aussie skipper Aaron Finch won the toss and opted to bat first. Losing the toss proved costly for Kohli and his men. As the openers set a massive 156 runs stand. David warner scored 69(76) before getting out to Shami. Smith then joined his skipper and continued scoring at the same rate. Both Finch 114(124) and Smith 105(66) scored centuries and showed some hopes of a 350+ total. But Indian bowlers pulled it back with 2 quick wickets of Finch and Stoinis. Just when it looked like Team India was pulling things back. Maxwell 45(19) played a cameo, smashing the Indian bowlers all round the park. Smith too fired in the death overs as Australia set a huge total of 374/6.

Dhawan and Pandya the lone warriors for Team India.

Chasing a stiff target in the first ODI at SCG. Team India got off to a flyer as they crossed the 50 run mark in the 4th over of their inning. Mayank Agarwal 22(18) and Shikhar Dhawan 74(86) started positively against the pacers. Mayank unfortunately got out trying to play a pull shot. Virat Kohli then joined in and played some good strokes but he too got dismissed by a bouncer. Shreyas Iyer played a good for nothing shot as he lasted for just 2 balls. New Vice Captain KL Rahul too didn’t last long as he gave away his wicket to Zampa. At this stage they were struggling at 101/4 and a huge loss was on the cards. But Hardik Pandya then joined Shikhar Dhawan and played some good strokes to keep his team’s hopes alive.

But after setting a 100+ run stand Dhawan got out at 74 followed by Pandya who entertained everyone with his 90(76). Jadeja, Saini and Shami too came up with small contributions. But that wasn’t enough as India finished at 308/8. Losing the first ODI at SCG by 66 runs. Zampa and Hazlewood finished with figures of 4/54 and 3/55. Smith as adjudged as man of the match for his classy knock.
