Maiden IPL Fifty By Ruturaj Gaikwad, CSK won by 8 wkts against RCB .
Chennai Super Kings snatched a rare win in this year’s IPL as they beat RCB today pretty easily. RCB still need one more win to confirm that esteemed playoffs spot. They have 3 more games left in the contest
PERFORMERS OF THE DAY
ROYAL CHALLENGERS BANGALORE Bat: Virat Kohli 50(43) AB De Villiers 39(36) Bowl: Yuzi Chahal 4-0-21-1
CHENNAI SUPER KINGS Bat: Ruturaj Gaikwad 65*(51) Ambati Rayudu 39(27) Bowl: Sam Curran 3-0-19-3 Santner 4-0-23-1
AS IT HAPPENED
RCB won the toss and chose to bat. Virat Kohli said at the toss that the pitch seemed dry and rough and was expected to slow down in the second innings. Finch Misfires Yet Again Aaron Finch, barring one or two games, has struggled this season to be the kind of opener RCB needs him to be. His last 4 scores are 15, 16, 14 and 20. He hit a couple of good shots today to start but couldn’t go any further. Padikkal also did not show the kind of flair that he did in the start of the season. RCB were 46-1 after 6 overs, and Padikkal perished on the first ball after the powerplay.
After losing both the openers early, Kohli and De Villiers worked together to make a 82 run stand. RCB were 125-2 after 17 overs with both of them still on the crease. A launch was on the cards with just 3 overs to go but CSK did well to restrict these two from going berserk in the end.
RCB lost 4 wickets in the last 3 overs and managed to score just 20 runs off it. They finished on 145-6 which seemed 20 runs below par.
THE CHASE
CSK played like the team everyone is used to seeing from years. A modest total of 145 didn’t demand extraordinary efforts from a batting side that has struggled this year. Ruturaj Gaikwad put his A game forward and lived up to the expectations of the team. Faf gave CSK a quick start and Rayudu ensured that they didn’t choke like SRH did last night and kept the scoreboard
ticking. CSK were 48-1 after 6 overs.
Kohli Points Out Lack Of Discipline in Bowling
Kohli after the match pointed out that CSK were much disciplined with the ball that they were. RCB bowlers’ lengths were all over the place. Their lack of discipline didn’t allow them to put pressure on the batting team. CSK on the other hand kept it on the shorter side and made use of the slowness of the pitch.
CSK needed just 64 from the last 10 overs. Gaikwad and Dhoni remained unbeaten and took CSK home comfortably. Maiden IPL Fifty By Ruturaj Gaikwad .
Although a playoff spot seems unlikely for CSK, they still have an outside chance. Here’s what needs to happen if CSK wants to qualify:
1) CSK to win all their remaining matches
2) KKR to lose all their remaining matches
3) KXIP to beat KKR and then lose their remaining matches
4) SRH to lose at least one of their remaining matches by a big margin
