Centurion Glenn Phillips guides kewis to a massive total
It was the 2nd T20I match of the series between New Zealand and West Indies. Skipper Pollard won the toss and opted to bowl first. The Kewis openers Guptill 34(23) and Seifert 18(13) gave a good start setting a 49 run partnership in the powerplays. But both got out in consecutive overs. As a result 2 young players Conway and Glenn Phillips entered the center stage. But both these players took the West Indies bowlers on. Glenn Phillips ended up getting the fastest century for a New Zealander as he smashed a 46 ball ton. Conway on the other hand remained unbeaten at 65(37).
Glenn Phillips the centurion scored 108(51) with 10 4’s and 8 massive 6’s. As a result New Zealand finished at 238/3. For West indies Pollard used 7 bowlers but none could stop the Kewis Duo. Oshane Thomas, Fabian Allen and Pollard picked 1 wicket each.
New Zealand bowlers restrict Windies batsman from going big
Chasing a massive total of 239 West Indies had to bat aggressively. But they didn’t have the best of starts as they lost opener Brandon King for a duck. The rest of the batsman tried their best but the Kewis pacers like Jamieson and Ferguson were too good on the end. For West Indies Andre Fletcher 20(14, Hetmyer 25(32), Kyle Mayers 20(14), Keiron Pollard 28(15). All chipped in with small contributions but that wasn’t enough to chase the massive target. West Indies kept loosing wickets at regular intervals courtesy some good bowling by the kewis.
Some late strikes by Keemo Paul 26(18) and Fabien Allen 26(18) ensured that they crossed the 150 run mark. As West Indies finished at 166/9 loosing by 72 runs. For Kewis Jamieson finished with 2/15 where as Santner picked 2/41. Glenn Phillips was judged as the Man of the Match for his classy ton.
