India is having a good run in the current test series but the thing which has stolen the headlines is the IPL Auction 2021. It’s just approximately 3 months since the IPL 2020 season got over, and we’ve got another action-packed IPL season underway. IPL Auction 2021 took place on Thursday at Chennai where all the teams had to bid for the players which can fill the gaps in their teams. There were too many surprising buys along with some expected ones.
Here’s the list of the top 5 expensive buys in the IPL Auction 2021
Chris Morris
Chris Morris became the most expensive buy in the IPL history after Rajasthan Royals acquired his services in the IPL Auction 2021 at a whopping amount of INR 16.25 crore. Morris, being a fast- bowling all-rounder was expected to go at high-price. But, 16.25 was certainly not expected, not even from Morris himself. Morris was released from Royal Challengers Bangalore right before the IPL Auction 2021 as he was prone to injuries. Royals needed a replacement for their speedster Jofra Archer and someone who can bat as well. Chris Morris got fit in their criteria.
Kyle Jamieson
Kyle Jamieson was bought by Royal Challengers Bangalore in the auction at a surprising amount of INR 15cr in the auction. RCB has always been worried about their firepower in their bowling attack. Jamieson can fill that gap in the team along with the likes of Navdeep Saini, Mohammad Siraj, Kane Richardson, Daniel Christian and Daniel Sams.
Glenn Maxwell
Royal Challengers Bangalore got another expensive buy in Glenn Maxwell after they got him at INR 14.25cr. RCB were in need of an “X-factor” in their middle order and Maxwell can definitely steal the show at that position. Maxwell was expected to go at huge price. In fact, experts predicted him as one of the most expensive buys right before the IPL Auction 2021.
Jhye Richardson
Jhye Richardson is a healthy pick for Punjab Kings considering the package which he offers. Punjab Kings got the winning bid of 14cr for him. Richardson impressed everyone not just with his pace in bowling but also with batting ability which he has. Punjab Kings went into the IPL Auction with the highest purse amount and they had no regrets getting him at 14cr.
K Gowtham
K Gowtham was one of the most shocking buys in the IPL Auction 2021. Chennai Super Kings went for him right from the start as they were in need of an off spinning all-rounder. They acquired him at INR 9.25 crore which is 46.25 times of his base price.
