Kxip now officially knocked out of the Dream 11 IPL 2020. They became the second team to go out of the race of the playoffs after CSK, to whom they lost today. Chennai Super Kings, on the other hand have ended the season on a high, having won their last 3 games.

PERFORMERS OF THE DAY

CHENNAI SUPER KINGS Bat: Ruturaj Gaikwad 62(49) Faf Du Plessis 48(34) Bowl: Lungi Ngidi 4-0-39-3 Imran Tahir 4-0-24-1 KINGS XI PUNJAB Bat: Deepak Hooda 62(30) Mayank Agarwal 26(15) Bowl: Chris Jordan 3-0-31-1

AS IT HAPPENED

CSK won the toss and chose to bowl first. Another team won the game after choosing to chase. CSK had three changes with Faf, Shardul and Tahir coming in for Watson, Santner and Karn. KXIP had two changes in a must-win game – Mayank and Neesham replacing Arshdeep and Maxwell.

Mayank Agarwal came in after an injury and provided what Punjab was lacking i.e. acceleration at the top. KL took his usual time to settle in while Mayank did the striking at the other end. Mayank was looking good but an inside edge onto the stumps paved hid dismissal. KXIP were 53-1 after 6 overs.

In a do-or-die game, Punjab’s top and middle order surrendered. KL got a start but got out, so did Gayle. Neither of Pooran, Mandeep and Neesham made an impact. They were 95-4 after the 15 overs mark and it looked like they would never reach even the 135 mark but Deepak Hooda put up his hand and put in a great knock under pressure. He made 62 off just 30 balls to take KXIP to 153.

Gaikwad – A Future Star

Ruturaj Gaikwad slammed his third continuous 50+ score this season. CSK won all those three games which goes to show the impact an in-form opener can have on the team, something that KXIP knows very well. He and Faf provided a good start to the chase and ensured that CSK doesn’t suffer any early hiccups in the chase. CSK were 57-0 after the powerplay.

Poor Selection by KXIP

Punjab brought in Neesham for Maxwell and Mayank for Arshdeep. Maxwell was performing decently with the bowl and Arshdeep was a huge part of the KXIP resurgence. Going heavy on the batting didn’t help KXIP’s cause today. The lack of penetration was clearly visible in the Punjab bowling. They were able to take just one wicket and weren’t able to fox the CSK batsmen. As a result, CSK chased the target with ease and with 7 balls to spare. Kxip Knocked Out Of The Ipl .

This is the first ever IPL season that saw all the teams win at least 6 games. Never before has all the teams reached a minimum of 12 points.
