SRH bowlers restrict KXIP to a below par score.
After winning the toss SRH skipper David Warner decided to bowl first. KXIP opened with Rahul and Mandeep Singh. They had a rather decent start as the duo of Rahul 27(27) and Mandeep 17(14) set up a 37 run partnership. Mandeep departed first and then Gayle joined Rahul. But both departed in quick succession at the mid way stage. Glenn Maxwell faced another failure as he gave away his wicket at 12. The likes of Hooda, Jordan and Ashwin couldn’t contribute much. At one stage KXIP were 88/5 but once again Pooran came to KXIP’s rescue. KXIP’s previous victory hero Pooran too struggled to up the run rate but yet scored 32(28). As KXIP finished at 126/7. Sandeep Sharma, Holder and Rashid picked 2 wickets each for SRH. Rashid finished with best figures of 14/2 in his quota of 4 overs.
SRH looses track with a sudden collapse.
Chasing a low total of 127. SRH had a dream start as openers Warner 35(20) and Bairstow 19(20) set up a 56 run partnership in the powerplay. But immediately after the powerplay both well set batsman lost their wickets. Abdul Samad 7(5) who came ahead of Shankar too departed soon. Match winners of the previous match Pandey and Shankar joined and steadied the ship for SRH. SRH were well placed at 100/3 at the end of 15th over. But all off a sudden there was a major collapse. As from 100/3 SRH lost all wickets at 114. Both the well set batsman Pandey 15(29) and Shankar 26(27) were dismissed in the gap of 10 balls. This opened the gate for KXIP as their bowlers ran through the lower middle order of SRH. Holder, Priyam Garg, Rashid and everyone got out attempting for lofted shots.
KXIP eventually grabbed victory by 12 runs. Jordan and Arshdeep picked 3 wickets each. Jordan finished with excellent figures of 17/3. This victory has taken KXIP to the 5th spot with 10 points keeping their playoffs hopes alive.
