A Super Over victory and too much drama to savour! Yesterday was not a match for the weak-hearted.
RCB Win Despite Kohli Failing
Not very often does it happen that Virat Kohli fails and his team goes on to win the match. But Virat will like the fact that his team has it in them to look beyond him, which was not the case in earlier seasons.

AS IT HAPPENED
The Right Decision to Chase?
MI won the toss and chose to field, in a ground where teams batting first were winning the matches.
RCB started good scoring 59/0 in the first 6 overs with Aaron Finch doing much damage in the beginning. It was the third match of the season and Virat Kohli is yet to hit the ground running. He scored just 3 off 11 balls before handing a sitter to Rohit Sharma at cover.
Then began the ABD show as he hammered every bowler, be it Boult or be it Bumrah. Young Padikkal held one end and saw Abd go berserk at the other. An impact innings came from Shivam Dube as he smashed 27 in just 10 deliveries to take RCB past the 200 mark.
Beautiful Bowling by Sundar
In a match where more than 400 runs were scored, Washington Sundar did the unimaginable. He gave NO boundaries in his 4 overs and took the crucial wicket of the opponent captain Rohit Sharma. Suryakumar, Quinton de Kock and Hardik went cheaply to leave the MI in a puddle. The required rate climbed up and up in the dearth of boundaries and some good bowling by the RCB spinners, Chahal and Zampa.
The Sting in the Tail
Up until the 16th over, MI looked well out of the game. They had to make 80 runs in the last 4 overs. Though Pollard and Kishan were set on the crease, it looked quite impossible. But it was RCB and the pressure of the death was just too much to take for the bowlers. Pollard and Kishan took 27, 22, 12 and 18 from the last 4 overs to take the game into the super over.
A Run Away
Ishan Kishan came into the side in place of the injured Saurabh Tiwary and smashed 99 runs, just one away from what could have been perhaps the greatest innings in a chasing cause.
THE SUPER OVER DRAMA
Pollard and Hardik came to bat for Mumbai and some great bowling by Saini saw Mumbai score just 7 runs in the super over. Saini did good to redeem himself.
Here’s how the over went
1, 1, 0, 4, W, 1
Easy 8 runs
De Villiers and Kohli walked out to chase the meagre 8 runs but it was Bumrah with the ball. When ABD was given out in the third ball, all the RCB fans’ heart skipped a beat but the decision was overturned and AB and Kohli took the team home.
Here’s how the over went
1, 1, 0, 4, 1, 4
RCB now sits on the 3rd spot in the points table after winning 2 of their first 3 games whereas MI have lost 2 of their 3 and are placed in the 5th spot.
