RCB now sits at the top of the points table after winning their 3rd game of the season. They beat Rajasthan Royals by 8 wickets. Virat Kohli scored an unbeaten 72 off 53 balls to secure an easy win.

PERFORMERS OF THE DAY

ROYAL CHALLENGERS BANGALORE Bat: Virat Kohli 72*(53) Devdutt Padikkal 63(45) Bowl: Yuzi Chahal 4-0-24-3 Isuru Udana 4-0-41-2
RAJASTHAN ROYALS Bat: Mahipal Lomror 47(39) Bowl: Jofra Archer 4-0-18-1

AS IT HAPPENED
Rajasthan won the toss and elected to bat first. The decision looked fair considering the scorching heat and the trend of this year’s IPL where teams batting first have had an edge.

RR’s Horrific Start
RR had a horrific start as they lost their 3 guns (Buttler, Smith and Samson) within a span of 10 balls. They finished the powerplay at 38-3.

Lomror’s Roar

Mahipal Lomror played his first game of the season today. He came in a tough position after his team had lost 3 quick wickets. He played a good 47 runs innings in which he hit 3 sixes. RR tried to revive their position towards the end. They scored 55 runs in the last 5 overs and Rahul Tewatia hit 24 runs with a strike rate of 200. Despite the efforts in the death, RR finished on a below-par total of 154 runs.

Magical Padikkal

In comes the RCB to chase a very chaseable total. Finch looked good but got dismissed early by Shreyas Gopal. Devdutt Padikkal hit his 3rd fifty of the season. He scored 63 runs and stringed together a 99 run partnership with captain Kohli.

The Chase-Master

The Chase Master aka Virat Kohli steered the innings very well and made sure that there were no hiccups during the course of the chase. He started slow and cautiously given his humble recent form. He ran beautifully between the wickets and hit boundaries at regular intervals to win the game for RCB.

WHAT’S DIFFERENT FOR RCB THIS YEAR

Last year, RCB lost 6 consecutive games at the start of the season. This year though, they’ve won 3 of their first 4 games. Death bowling improved in this match giving 55 runs in the last 5. Yuzi Chahal again put up a match-winning performance and was adjudged the Man Of The Match.

TOO DIFFICULT TO RECOVER FOR RR

Rajasthan lost all their 3 main batters in a span of 10 balls. It’s too tough to recover from such a start and go on to win the match. RR always looked like playing catch-up and never got ahead of the game. They made the chase easier for RCB by their poor fielding, giving extra runs and dropping the half chances.
